Chauncey "The Frog King" Folk Art Doll

 Look what we found lurking around out in one of our flower beds.  He tried to convince me to give him one little kiss but I said "eek, frog lips, no way!".

Meet Chauncey.  He tells me he is "THE Frog King". as if there were more than one.

Chauncey is made of aged, stained and color-washed muslin.

He measures 24" in height.

Chauncey's face has been hand painted with acrylics and sealed to prevent fading.

He has been sanded to add character.

Chauncey sports some fancy "duds".  His pants are from a striped fabric which I embellished with some gold fringe.  His shirt is a cream fabric with a tiny brown leaf pattern.  He has a green felt vest front over a maroon cumber-bum  which sports tiny rusted bells.  The gold fringe also adorns the neckline of his shirt.

Chauncey wears a high collared "kingly" robe of dark maroon fabric.  It is attached to his back by three rusty bells at his shoulders.  His Crown is made from rusted square head horse shoe nails with matching maroon fabric and topped with a rusty bell.

His boots have been painted and sanded.  He has tiny crocheted lace accents on the top of the boots.

Chauncey hold his scepter in his left hand.  It is fashioned from a small dried cattail and topped with a rusty bell and pearl.

My inspiration for this doll comes from Grimm's Fairy Tales  - The Frog King  from which many of the Frog Prince and The Princess and Frog tales are derived.  I have begun reading the originals to my children as they teach valuable lessons and are not the watered down versions they are so readily fed these days.
