Sweet Southern Belle - A Primitive Black Folk Art Doll

Belle is a true lady of the south.  she always keeps her wayward locks tucked up under her rag cap when she cooks and her apron is always starched.

She is made from my pattern from aged, and stained muslin and various cotton fabrics.

Her skirt is a light blue with tiny white leaf and dot designs.  Her cream colored shirt is covered with prim pastel southern flowers.  Her rag cap is of the same fabric as her skirt and the apron is prim muslin.

Belle's facial features are sculpted and hand painted.  They have been lightly sealed to keep from fading.  Her unruly hair is real sheeps wool that has been needle felted into place.

Belle measures approx. 30 inches from head to toe so she is a big ole gal.  She even has big 5.5 inch feet which are sculpted as well.

She is sure to bless any prim home she visits.

She was created with the Belindy Rag or Mammy Style dolls in mind but I find that she is much more proper than that and I just love how she turned out.
